The deadlines for applications are often in February, March and April so that winners can be selected and scholarships awarded before the end of the school year. AAUW of Medina County Scholarship Fund

Established by the American Association of University Women of Medina County to award scholarships to nontraditional female students. A "nontraditional" student is a woman whose undergraduate education has been interrupted or delayed.

Eligibility requirements:

  • At least 23 years old
  • Resident of Medina County
  • Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university

County Forward Fund Work Scholarship

Funded by the Ken Cleveland Foundation and other donors from the Medina County business community, this scholarship is designed to help start the careers of recent Medina County high school graduates with scholarships to pay for work-related expenses.

Applications can be submitted online here or emailed to mitchel@medinacounty.org.  Deadline to submit: April 1, 2024 at 5:00 PM. By submitting the application you grant permission to verify your attendane record with the guidance department of your high school and your employment.

GCEF Scholarship Fund

Established by the Gay Community Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for LGBTQ+ and allied students.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Student lives in Medina or its surrounding counties
  • Participation in organizations or initiatives that positively impact the LGBTQ+ community

Timothy L. Holston Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for Medina High School students.

  • Minority senior at Medina High School

Michelle M. Vasenda Fund

Established in memory of Michelle M. Vasenda, a career nurse who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2009. It was her vision to create a scholarship to help those committed to helping others.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Student applying to or enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Substantial volunteer service with a cancer-related organization

Vincent Yambrovich Engineering Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for Buckeye High School seniors who plan to study engineering.

Witan Presidents' Scholarship Fund

Established by WITAN to provide scholarships for nontraditional female students at the University of Akron.

Eligibility requirements:

Female student at the University of Akron who is in her final year of undergraduate or graduate study

Members of WITAN and their families are not eligible

Anthony Wunderle Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Lori and Greg Wunderle in memory of their son Anthony who had childhood leukemia. This scholarship is to provide educational opportunities for a higher education, accredited trade, or apprenticeship program for any cancer survivor or family member of a cancer patient, living or deceased.

Akron Community Foundation's Online Application System

Birthcare of Medina County

Birthcare Scholarship
You must be a client or client spouse of Birthcare within the current year. You must hold a GED or high school diploma. You must be a current resident of Medina County

Application forms are available in the Birthcare office beginning in January of each year, 620 E. Smith Road, Unit E-5A, Medina, or at www.birthcaremedina.org. Awards of at least $500 are given to applicants each year who meet the above criteria and are recommended for the award by the scholarship committee.

College Club West

Tuition grants "up to $2000 or more", offered to women whose official home residence is within the counties of Cuyahoga, Medina and Lorain counties. They must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in any area of study. The scholarships will be awarded to women 25 years of age and older based on financial need, goals and academic records.

College Now Adult Learner Program

College Now provides scholarship opportunities to adult students age 19 and above who have interrupted their education for one year or more. Open to residents of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit or Trumbull Counties.

Hinckley Women's Club Scholarships

The Hinckley Women's Club will offer two financial assistance scholarships to eligible Hinckley residents for the Fall of 2024. The scholarships, worth $1000 each, can be used for books or tuition and will be presented to the winners at the April Hinckley Women's Club meeting. The scholarship is open to Hinckley residents currently pursuing a post high school training program or to any resident planning to attend college in the Fall. Post high school training includes business school, technical school, or college/university study. The application is available on our website at www.hinckleywomensclub.com.

Scholarship applications will require:

  1. A cover letter listing the applicant's name, address, and phone number, along with the school they are planning to attend, and the area of study.
  2. A typed one-page essay of no more than 500 words addressing the following topics:
    • What are your career goals and how do you plan to achieve them?
    • How have you been involved in your community?
    • List your academic achievements.
    • Describe your work experience, both paid and volunteer.
    • What are your extracurricular interests?

The Junior League of Cleveland

Awards of up to $5000. Applicant must be a non-traditional student, a woman not going directly to a four-year college immediately after high school graduation. Scholarship funds are available to assist with the cost of accredited instructional programs and/or workforce training programs. Applicant’s permanent residence must be in one of these Ohio counties: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina or Trumbull.

Ken Cleveland Scholarship

The Medina County business community believes getting a job out of high school should be celebrated and to do so, we are offering $1,000 scholarships to a graduate from each Medina County high school, including the Career Center, to be used for tools, uniforms/clothing, gas, or whatever a young person needs to launch their career

The student must be graduating from a Medina County high school and getting a position with a Medina County company. We will be verifying with you their employment and their attendance record with the school.

Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Scholarship

College, vocational or technical school scholarship of $2,500. First place will be given for both a boys and girls division as well as runners-up in each division which will receive $1,500 scholarships. The scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors whose parents/guardians are members of the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative and receiving electric at their primary residence from the Cooperative. The applications must have at least a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average or better.

Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Children of Members Scholarship

Each year, Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative offers high school seniors whose parents or guardians are LMRE members the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship. Candidates submit an application, and finalists in the boys’ and girls’ divisions are interviewed by a panel of judges. The judges base their scores on the students’ poise, community and school involvement, academics, personality, and cooperative knowledge.

Cooperative Trade Scholarship

As part of our ongoing support for our youth programs, Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative (LMRE) is excited to announce a new $500 trade scholarship to high school seniors who are pursuing further education and are enrolled at a technical or trade school following graduation. Some examples of career courses that may qualify for the scholarship include industrial electricity, heating and air conditioning, masonry trades, and carpentry.

To qualify, applicants must be graduating seniors carrying a grade point average of 2.0 or above who reside in homes served by LMRE, and should include the completed form, as well as a copy of the applicant’s high school transcripts and a letter of recommendation.

Louise Freeland Scholarship

Four $3,000 scholarships and four $1,200 scholarships are available to children of employees and trustees who are graduating high school seniors and are not eligible for other scholarships offered by the cooperative. Scholarships are awarded annually, following an interview of the finalists in Columbus. The scholarship is named after long-time cooperative employee Louise Freeland, who retired in 1990. This scholarship is handled through Ohio's Electric Cooperatives, and employees should look for an email from them at the end of the year.

Ohio Line Supervisors Association Scholarship

Three scholarships, in the amounts of $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000, are available to children of employees who are graduating high school seniors and are not eligible for other scholarships offered by the cooperative. Scholarships are awarded annually, following the interview of ten finalists in Columbus. This scholarship is handled through Ohio's Electric Cooperatives, and employees should look for an email from them at the end of the year.

MC Chamber Charities Scholarship

Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Application

At least ONE Scholarship, up to $1000, will be awarded to at least one resident who resides in Medina County, OH and is 24 years of age or older.

Deadline: AUGUST 2, 2024

Description:
This scholarship fund was established by MC Chamber Charities of Northern Medina County in Ohio to promote academic development of non-traditional students planning to or already attending a trade school or an accredited college/university. The "non-traditional" student is seen as an individual whose undergraduate education has been delayed or interrupted or who seeks additional training or certification. Winners will be notified by MC Chamber Charities and will also be publicly recognized at a local community event and announced through social media.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. A non-traditional student age 24 or older
  2. Resident of Medina County in Ohio
  3. Planning to attend a trade school/certification program or an accredited college/university
  4. Able to produce evidence of enrollment/application in a certificate program or a degree granting program

Submission Materials:

  1. Completed application
  2. High school transcript or proof of GED
  3. College transcript (if any)
  4. At least two letter of recommendation*
  5. Written response to three essay questions as noted in the application

Letters of recommendation guidelines
Letters of recommendation should comment on their experience(s) with you, including their impressions regarding your dependability, resourcefulness, and ability to work toward and complete your goals. Please have them include their name, address, and their relationship to you. Letters should come from those outside your family.

Find and submit your application. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, clarity of stated goals and objectives as well as determination of need. A scholarship committee will review applications and the results will be announced soon after the application deadline.

Medina County Arts Council Scholarship

The Medina County Arts Council (MCAC) will be awarding scholarships to Medina County graduating seniors in the year 2024. MCAC will award 5 one-time scholarships - three in the amount of $1,000 and two in the amount of $500. Funds are to be used toward tuition, books, or other school supplies.

Medina County Bar Association Law Day Scholarship

The Medina County Bar Association has announced its 2023 Law Day Scholarship Contest. Three $1000 one-time scholarships are available to high school seniors, residing in Medina County, Ohio who writes an outstanding essay on the theme of “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration."

Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities

The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to offer a scholarship to students in the community who are entering a field of study (i.e., special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, behavioral sciences, etc.) which may provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. 

This scholarship, administered by the MCBDD Donated Funds Committee, encourages students to make an impact through public service to improve the lives of hundreds of Medina County citizens with developmental disabilities.

Medina County Farm Bureau Scholarship

Multiple Scholarships

The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation annually awards scholarships to students planning to pursue careers in agriculture and to adults seeking continuing education in agriculture-related studies. To support the future of agriculture throughout Ohio, each county has a scholarship fund to allot to its local students. Other scholarships focus on specific issues such as women’s leadership in agriculture, livestock and crop sciences at the Agricultural Technical Institute, sheep production and management, and more.

Medina Hospital, the Hospital Foundation and the Medina Hospital Medical Staff assist students interested in a medical career through one of four scholarship programs made available for the 2023 – 2024 academic year. While eligibility details for each scholarship vary, general requirements include that the applicant must be a graduate of one of the seven Medina County school districts and are pursuing a healthcare career field of study. Students who are thinking of becoming doctors, nurses or members of allied health professions are encouraged to apply.

Medina High School Citizenship Scholarship
The Medina High School Citizenship Scholarship will be awarded to a student who exemplifies being involved with and giving back to their community, based on their involvement, achievement, and general worthiness in the view of the selection committee.

Kovack Family Community Fund Career Tech Scholarship
Kovack Family Community Fund Career Tech Scholarship shall be awarded to one senior graduating from a career technical training program the Medina County Career Center planning on further education in a career tech field. The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of sincerity in furthering one’s education. Grades, student citizenship, and school/community involvement. Financial need will also be considered.

 

MSM 2024 Scholarship Program

Main Street Medina is proud to partner with Cool Beans Café and Stanley Black & Decker and its Valley City, Ohio local facility to offer up to seven scholarships for 2024 high school / career center graduating seniors. Please read the criteria below for each scholarship and apply by 5pm on Friday, March 29, 2024 to be considered. 

Cool Beans Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship 

Presented by Main Street Medina the Cool Beans Café Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship recognizes high school and college students pursuing a career in entrepreneurism. These scholarships will provide multiple awards of $500 to $1000 for students in Medina County. Awards: between $500-1000 award to be applied toward school tuition and fees or towards an eligible business plan.

General Eligibility Requirements: 

· Must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States. 

· Must be either a high school senior or a college student currently enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. vocational, junior college, or four-year college/university.

 · Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities. 

· Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted). 

· Family members of selection board, Main Street Medina, or committee members are ineligible.

 

Stanley Black & Decker Outdoor Trades & Business Scholarship 

Presented by Main Street Medina The Stanley Black & Decker Outdoor Trades & Business Scholarship recognizes high school students pursuing a career in the vocational trades, business, and or entrepreneurship. This scholarship awards five (5) onetime scholarships of $1,000 each to qualifying students in Medina County. Awards: Five (5) $1,000 scholarships will be applied toward school tuition and fees in support of vocational or secondary education. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

· Must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S. 

· Must be a current (or recently graduated) high school senior planning to enroll full-time at an accredited U.S. vocational, junior college, or four-year college/university.

The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools

The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools (OMACCS) is once again offering our 2024 LEADS! Scholarship program for Ohio & Michigan high school seniors graduating by Spring 2024! This year we are offering 128 scholarships at 19 Ohio and Michigan career colleges, totaling over $285,000, with FULL and PARTIAL scholarships available! Please review the LEADS! Scholarship Booklet for the participating colleges and their eligible programs, and please ensure the Student Application and the Nomination Form are completed accurately before submission.   • These scholarships are available to any current high school senior graduating from any Ohio or Michigan High School by June of 2024.
  • The applicant needs a “C” average or better to apply. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need.
  • Each applicant must be nominated by a local civic or community leader or by a current member of the Ohio or Michigan Legislature.
  • Any recipient of a scholarship must be able to meet the college or school’s entrance requirements.
  • Each applicant is eligible to apply for up to three (3) scholarships but must use a separate application for each scholarship.
  • The scholarship recipient must start classes either the summer or fall term following their high school graduation.

Ohio Education Association

Marilyn Cross Scholarship
The $4,000 scholarship is presented each year to an OEA member and career teacher enrolled in a graduate-level program directly linked to his/her current area of certification/licensure, and must demonstrate a need of financial assistance and a reasonable prediction of success in graduate work.

John F. Kennedy Scholarship

The $4,000 John F. Kennedy Scholarship is presented each year to an OEA member who is a career teacher enrolled in a graduate-level program and in need of financial assistance. Preference is given to applicants enrolled in programs that continue classroom involvement. The recipient must provide OEA with an annual statement describing their employment and graduate work status.

The online nomination form must be completed in a single session, as you will not be able to save, and return to it at a later time without starting over. In addition, it must be received on or before January 27, 2023

The $2,000 Jean Kershaw Scholarship is presented each year to a student member currently enrolled in an undergraduate teacher education program in Ohio or a senior-level education student who has been formally accepted for graduate study toward a master’s degree of education program at an accredited Ohio college or university.

Applicants must be current members of the Ohio Aspiring Educators and the NEA Aspiring Educator Program.

ESP Aspiring Teacher Scholarship

The $4,000 ESP Aspiring Teacher Scholarship is presented each year to an Education Support Professional member currently enrolled in an undergraduate teacher education program in Ohio or a senior-level education student who has been formally accepted for graduate study in a master’s degree of education program at an accredited Ohio college or university.
